CryZENx Releases Fresh Playable Content Deep Inside Jabu-Jabu for His Ocarina of Time Remake

CryZENx has released another substantial update to his ongoing project that rebuilds The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5. This time the focus lands squarely on the twisting interior of Jabu-Jabu, the massive fish-like guardian from Zora’s Domain.
This current demo lets fans explore the second portion of Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly without restrictions, as Link moves around freely as you’d expect. Navigation appears to be entirely natural as he meanders down those twisting passageways, destroys multiple monsters, and moves towards the true core of the game, the last fight at the end of the area. It all works as intended, with each gameplay system operational from start to finish and no static screens to deal with. The atmosphere is superb at retaining the same restricted, slightly unsettling vibe of the original dungeon, but with substantially more detail. When the lights change, the fleshy walls take on an interesting luster.

The lighting changes constantly, setting the ambiance as you move along. Beams of light strike surfaces at odd angles, making the creature’s innards appear more lifelike without ever appearing too phony. Little details, such as the Triforce on Link’s hand glowing when danger approaches, help to tie up with the classic game while also fitting the new graphics.

Link moves with real weight in his steps, as you can tell he’s got some clear facial expressions when things get tense. Combat is smooth and silky, with the way he swings his sword and dodges enemy strikes making all the difference. Then there’s the boss fight against Barinade, with the person in continual motion and strong sound effects everywhere. Each step seems important, as those tentacles and electric strikes put you in a difficult situation.

Sound design performs an excellent job of backing you up the entire time, with fresh tracks and sounds that never overshadow the action. If you’ve played the original, you’ll be familiar with the layout and development, but the new version has a lot of energy, and there’s a new take on the scenario that’s well worth exploring.

The entire thing runs on Unreal Engine 5.7.4, which focuses on clearer lighting using improved Lumen technology and ray tracing. They’ve also included CPU optimizations to keep things stable. If you want crisper action at greater resolutions, you can enable DLSS or FSR. If motion blur just isn’t your thing, you can simply turn it off. The free version runs at 30 frames per second, however Patreon supporters can access a 60 frames per second build.
