The two boys, aged two and four, had reportedly been found in cardiac arrest by their 33-year-old mother in the car that was in a residential parking garage.
Despite the best efforts of the paramedics, they were unable to save the boys. The mother has since been taken into care by emergency services but has so far been deemed not fit for a police interview.
The boys were in the car as France was currently facing a major heatwave with recorded temperatures in Carpentras today being just less than 40C. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1pm local time.
