A British man has tragically died after collapsing in a Greek hospital where he had taken his unwell wife for medical attention.
The 55-year-old holidaymaker was enjoying a break with his wife in Kalavryta, Achaea, in southern Greece when she suddenly fell ill and needed urgent medical care.
The man drove his wife to Kalavryta Hospital on Wednesday afternoon (June 3) where healthcare professionals swiftly provided first aid to the woman as she lay on a bed.
It was while the man was at her bedside that he collapsed, local media reports suggest, with doctors and nurses immediately rushing to perform CPR on him, reports the Mirror.
Despite the valiant efforts of the hospital staff, he was declared dead a few minutes later, according to the Ekathimerini newspaper.
The cause of the man’s death is yet to be established, the daily Athens newspaper reported.
An autopsy will be conducted in the next few days to determine what transpired, while police in Kalavryta have initiated a preliminary investigation into the incident.
Reports indicate that the woman has since been discharged from the hospital following brief treatment for her illness.
