Russian missile ‘enters NATO airspace’ as air raid siren ring out in early hours

A Russian missile is reported to have entered Poland’s airspace, sparking panic as Lublin air raid sirens blared in the early hours of Thursday amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict — though officials have not confirmed the reports

Air raid sirens have been sounding across Lublin, in eastern Poland following reports of a Russian missile breaching Polish airspace.

These missile reports come amidst Russian assaults on Ukraine, Poland’s neighbouring country.

The alarm was heard echoing in the early hours of Thursday, July 30, as rumours spread on social media suggesting that a missile might have entered Poland.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether a missile had indeed infiltrated the airspace.

Videos shared on social media captured the night sky with the eerie sound of the siren audible in the background.

One British holidaymaker posted a video on X, with the accompanying caption partially reading: “3.50am. Sirens going off.

“As a British tourist this scared the hell out of me.”

The sirens eventually ceased and no further alerts were reported.

Marcin Bubicz, a spokesperson for the governor of Lublin province, informed WP Wiadomoci that authorities had received “credible and confirmed” information from Poland’s Government Security Centre regarding a threat of air strikes.

Air raid warnings were sounded across Ukraine just a few hours earlier.

Reuters news agency reported hearing explosions in Kyiv.

Poland, a NATO member, defensively deployed fighter jets to safeguard its airspace in response to Russian air strikes, according to its armed forces’ statement on X.

“Fighter aircraft and an early warning aircraft have ‌begun operations, while ground-based air defence systems and radar reconnaissance systems have reached a state of readiness,” they announced.

They stated that these measures are precautionary in nature.
