Norwegian Crown Princess’s son Marius Borg Høiby found guilty of rape and jailed
Marius Borg Høiby, 29, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been found guilty of two counts of rape and sentenced to four years in prison – this is a breaking news story
Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette Marit, has been convicted of two counts of rape and handed a four-year prison sentence. The 29-year-old, who became part of the royal family when Mette-Marit wed Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon in 2001, has refuted the most serious allegations levelled against him, including those of rape, and retains the right to appeal the verdict.
The three judges in courtroom 250 at Oslo District Court cleared him of two other counts of rape, but found him guilty of many of the other offences of which he had been accused.
Høiby was not in court for the verdict, but joined the session via video link, the BBC reports. Prosecutors had called for Høiby to be given seven years and seven months in prison. His defence lawyers had called for a lesser term of 18 months.
The bombshell trial, which gripped Norway for several weeks, heard that Høiby had raped four women between 2018 and 2024 while they were sleeping or incapacitated.
One alleged rape took place in the basement of the crown prince’s family home, the court heard. The six-week trial concluded in March after testimony from multiple accusers and presentation of evidence, including messages, images and videos from Høiby’s phone.
Høiby, whose mother married into the royal family when he was four was never a member of the royal family but the boy nicknamed “Little Marius” did grow up alongside his royal siblings.
Throughout the trial, Norway’s future king and queen kept their distance from Oslo district court. Crown Princess Mette-Marit is very ill having been placed om a lung transplant list.
