Scott McTominay’s heart surgery has been labelled a ‘complete success’ and will be back in training before the end of the month, confirm Napoli.

The Scotland international was back in Manchester for the operation on Tuesday morning.

The surgery was to carry out a minor ablation procedure, which corrects an irregular heart rhythm.

The issue was discovered after the 29-year-old was taken off just under an hour into Napoli’s 2-1 loss to Como on August 30.

The Scotland star’s contract at Napoli runs until 2028 and there remains doubt over whether he will sign a new deal with the Serie A club.

He said himself last week, via Gazzetta dello Sport: ‘Will I stay at Napoli? I don’t know, we haven’t discussed it.

‘In football, contracts come and go, but that’s not the most important thing right now; the pitch is what matters. I still don’t know if I’ll renew.’

However, sporting director Giovanni Manna suggested they had discussed it, saying: ‘We are discussing a renewal. We’ve met.

‘Scott is an important player, he has two years left on his contract. We want to try and make it happen, he wants to make it happen, but things need to align. It’s not always simple, but we are trying.’
