A Miss Universe contestant has been found dead in her apartment at the age of 23. Wualys Suseth Fuentes Aquino was discovered by worried relatives who had not heard from her for several days.
Her tragic death comes as the Miss Universe family has been rocked just days before following the passing of a Miss Universe Jamaica pageant finalist with details of the cause of her death yet to be revealed.
Wualys’ family members went to her apartment and made the heartbreaking discovery before alerting the authorities on Monday (July 20). The police sealed off the scene as forensic teams gathered evidence at her home in the Altos del Trapiche residential area of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

The authorities removed the model’s body for an autopsy to establish her exact cause of death, which currently remains unknown. Officials have not ruled out foul play or natural causes as inquiries continue.
The young model and student recently finished runner-up in the Miss Universe Tegucigalpa 2026 pageant. She came second behind eventual winner Luciana Núñez. Organisers praised her talent, charisma and supportive nature towards fellow contestants.
As well as modelling, Wualys studied International Marketing and Social Work at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH).
She was considered a rising star in her home country and often shared her love of travel on social media.
The Miss Universe Tegucigalpa organisation described her as supportive, kind and committed. Friends remembered the “joyful and charismatic” young woman with big dreams.

Wualys’ final social media posts are now being remembered with sadness by those who knew her. The investigation into her death is ongoing.
Her death comes just days after a Miss Universe Jamaica finalist passed away. The Miss Universe Jamaica organisation announced the death of 35-year-old actress and dancer, LaToya Malcolm, on Saturday (July 18) in a social media tribute. Details regarding her cause of death are currently unknown.
LaToya competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica pageant, where she was one of the competition’s standout contestants.

The pageant wrote on Instagram: “In Loving Memory of LaToya Malcolm. We mourn the passing of MUJ alumna LaToya Malcolm, who proudly competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica Competition.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and loved ones. Rest peacefully, LaToya. You will never be forgotten.”
