Lexus LY680 Yacht Sails Toward Florida With Volvo Diesels and Room for Fifteen

Lexus opened overseas orders for the LY680 in September 2026, six months after the yacht made its physical debut in March and two years after sales began in Japan. The first public appearance outside that market is booked for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, running October 28 through November 1 in Florida. Brand officials framed the move under the line Discover Escapism, treating the boat as a private stretch of water rather than a floating showroom for the spindle grille.

According to measurements, the hull is just under 68 feet long and 19 feet wide across the beam, or 20.62 meters by 5.76 meters. It is the outcome of taking the LY 650, a production yacht that Lexus introduced in 2019 after originally displaying the Sport Yacht concept in 2017. The first owners of that boat provided valuable feedback, essentially stating that they needed more space, thus Horizon extended the flybridge by around 1400 millimeters and the swim platform by 700 millimeters. As a result, a lounge sofa and a barbecue have been added, which is quite nice on a day boat, allowing people to avoid crowding the cabin floor.

On the power side, the configuration is rather simple: two Volvo Penta IPS pod drives in either IPS 1050 or IPS 1350 form. Both have the same 12.8-litre, six-cylinder diesel engine. The lesser rating provides a lively 800 horsepower per engine, whereas the larger one generates roughly 1,000 horsepower each, for a total of about 2,000 horsepower. The pods steer and reverse without the need for a conventional shaft, reducing noise and allowing the stern to sit low in the water. It has 4,012 liters of gasoline and 852 liters of fresh water, all of which are stored below deck. Horizon lists the displacement at a respectable 33.36 tons. There is no news yet on top speed, however the previous LY650 claimed to reach 33 knots.

Below deck, three cabins can accommodate six overnight guests. If it’s a daytime event, the capacity is increased to 15 people. As you might expect, the exterior lines were designed to blend in with Lexus’ L-finesse styling concept, and the business claims they’ve paid the same attention to noise and vibration as they do in their cars. Horizon claims that the result is a steady boat with a very smooth ride, which is undoubtedly what Lexus wants to hear. As of yet, no independent sea trial findings have been revealed to support this claim.

Horizon Group in Taiwan, namely their Vision yard, is in charge of building the boat, while Lexus maintains the design and, most importantly, the brand identity. Horizon oversees the actual construction, as well as the interior joinery and factory floor. They have adapted methods from the Toyota Production System. Horizon’s CEO, John Lu, believes this cooperation is a source of great pride for the yard and Taiwan as a whole. Meanwhile, Go Hayashi, Lexus’ deputy general manager, says the goal is to provide a tranquil area on the sea for families and friends while maintaining the brand’s standards.

Back on dry land, Japanese purchasers were requested to pay roughly 760 million yen ($4.8 million) when orders became available. We don’t know what international pricing are yet, but we should have a clearer idea when the boat debuts on the Fort Lauderdale docks next month. That’s an opportunity to view the larger flybridge and the expanded swim step for yourself, and it’s a huge test for any car business to determine whether a familiar logo is enough to sell a 68-foot yacht.
