Kurumoch Airport ‘evacuates passengers and staff’ over ‘missile threat’
Samara’s Kurumoch Airport in Russia was forced to evacuate all passengers and staff after a possible “missile threat” was announced in the area, causing disruption to both arrivals and departures
An international airport had been forced to evacuate all passengers and staff over a possible threat.
Samara’s Kurumoch Airport in Russia said an organised evacuation was carried out today (August 6) over a potential “missile threat”.
In a statement posted on Max, a Russian social media platform, the airport said: “After the missile threat was announced, the airport conducted an organized evacuation of passengers and staff to ensure safety.”
According to Russian News Agency TASS, Temporary restrictions were also in place on the arrival and departure of aircraft to the airport. The airport’s online flight status board now shows all flights “suspended” next to all flights., including those scheduled for tomorrow (August 7).
The missile alert was sounded in the area Samara at around 10am local time and it was not only the airport but schools and medical facilities also launching safety protocols.
It has not only been Kurumoch Airport thrown into flight chaos as Russian media have reported disruption and multiple airports across the country.
This morning temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures were put in place at Kirov (Pobedilovo), Perm (Bolshoye Savino), Orenburg, Penza, Tambov (Donskoye), Saratov (Gagarin), Yaroslavl (Tunoshna), Sochi, Ivanovo (Yuzhny), Cheboksary, Ulyanovsk (Baratayevka), Bugulma, Kazan, Nizhnekamsk (Begishevo), Ufa, Samara (Kurumoch), and Izhevsk.
