Horror as thugs turn Ibiza into makeshift boxing ring in front of holidaymakers

Boozy blokes turned a popular Ibiza party resort into a makeshift boxing ring in front of tourists and locals – on the same day police announced strict reinforcements for the area. The men ended up covered in blood after the orgy of street violence which took place in San Antonio’s notorious West End.
The area had just been decorated by Spanish artist Okuda to help transform the area from a nightlife-only strip to a cultural destination. But the booze took over as the men laid into each other, ignoring the barrier fences and plastic tape which had been put in place to protect the artwork.
One onlooker tried to separate them as they writhed on the ground at the start of the fight but another onlooker decided to join in – stepping in to throw a punch himself for no clear reason.
The brawl turned more violent with the taller man pulling his shorter barefoot rival by the hair to get the upper hand before kicking him in the head and luckily failing to connect full-on. Two fast-food workers can be seen in footage standing in the door of a nearby restaurant watching on impassively as if they had seen it all before.
Footage of the fight emerged as town hall chiefs in San Antonio announced police reinforcements for the summer. The West End was one of four in the municipality signalled as a priority area where the extra officers would be deployed.
Local police chief Tomas Monzo said the use of drones would be extended and a new network of CCTV cameras which would lead to a tripling of the existing number would be installed by the end of next week. San Antonio mayor Marcos Serra described this year’s security plan, launched ahead of the arrival of hordes of young British tourists to the area, as “one of the most ambitious the municipality has had in its history.”
He also promised to intensify the fight against the sale of laughing gas, a traditional problem in the summer, saying officers would target both buyers and dealers.
One local commenting on the footage of the fight said: “Welcome to San Antonio’s West End.
“A normal run-of-the-mill night. A lovely place for a family stroll.”
Another said: “Where were the police, fining cars?”
A third added, referencing the amount of blood on both the men kicking and punching each other: “The mural painted itself.”
