BYD Denza Z Coupe Delivers 1,582 Horsepower in a Surprisingly Practical Electric Package

Power in the top-spec Denza Z Coupe comes from a triple-motor electric setup that produces a combined 1,582 horsepower. One motor sits up front while two more drive the rear wheels. This output puts the car well into supercar territory on paper. Acceleration claims point to a zero-to-100-kilometer-per-hour time of about two seconds. Top speed climbs as high as 350 kilometers per hour on versions fitted with the aggressive sports package.
The package comprises a massive bolt-on rear wing, reworked bumpers, a front splitter, and a wider diffuser, all designed to improve downforce at higher speeds. The top-of-the-line hardtop weighs 2240 kg, which seems reasonable given its performance level. Denza’s fashion is radically different, with a more aggressive and low-profile aspect. The hood has a wicked tilt, and there’s even an authentic air inlet to keep things cool under the hood. The massive back fenders enhance the rooted posture, and the diamond-shaped taillights are so stunning that they will stick with you.
The coupe’s standard dimensions are approximately 4,780 millimeters long with a wheelbase of 2,780 millimeters. The track-focused sports model is longer, measuring 4,870 millimeters. The overall dimensions are equivalent to a Mercedes-AMG GT coupe, but what actually stands out is that Denza has a bit more interior space than the competition.

Not bad for a car that, despite its swoopy appearance, can seat four people, making it far more practical than many two-door supercars. The convertible version, with its soft top, uses the same basic platform and powertrains as the coupe, but weighs somewhat more. Chassis technology is serious business, however, thanks to the DiSus-M dynamic suspension system, which uses some very clever fluid to make adjustments on the fly and keep the car stable in all types of driving conditions. We don’t know the actual capacity yet.

It will be available in China in July and in the United Kingdom during the Goodwood Festival of Speed around the same time. Following that, it is projected to expand into other markets. Pricing is a closely kept secret. We expect that it will be substantially less expensive than some of the established European performance cars on the market, but still more expensive than many ordinary electric vehicles.
