Bruno Guimaraes responds to ‘fat rat’ taunt after Arsenal beat Sunderland | Football

Bruno Guimaraes has hit back at the Sunderland supporters who branded him a ‘fat rat’ on his return to the north east with Arsenal last night.

The summer signing from Newcastle has been forced to bide his time to make an impact for his new club following his £75million summer transfer.

Injury, added to the form of Myles Lewis-Skelly, had prevented the Brazil international from making an immediate impact, but that all changed at the Stadium of Light.

Introduced as a half-time substitute, Bruno broke the deadlock shortly after David Raya had prevent Sunderland from taking the lead with an outstandng penalty save to deny Enzo Le Fee.

With his every touch booed by the home supporters, it was little surprise that Bruno celebrated in such a provocative fashion, making a gesture with his fingers that was interpreted as him calling Sunderland a small club.

Ahead of the game, Bruno jeered and called a ‘fat rat’ as the Arsenal team coach arrived and the midfielder was keen to remind the Sunderland boo boys of that jibe with a post on social media after the match.

‘They know what they are, the fat rat wishes you a nice weekend,’ he wrote in pointed fashion.

Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, was delighted with the performance of his headline summer purchase and admitted it wouldn’t be long before he was starting games on a regular basis.

‘Unbelievable, but again the personality that he has, and this was a special game for him as well, what it means for him.

‘How he grabs the game, making decisions that he’s made. The goal was incredible, and the assist as well to Bukayo to put him through.

‘I’m really impressed with him.’

He added: ‘They all are (knocking on the door), to be fair.

‘We have had a really tough week, as I said, and they’ve all played and been really important – and that’s what we’re going to need as well, every three days to maintain this level, otherwise it’s impossible.
