Crew members have been hurt after a plane’s landing gear collapsed on the runway at Frankfurt Airport at around 12:45pm local time today (June 4). The incident happened just before passengers were about to board the Lufthansa Boeing 787-9.

According to local news reports, the plane collapsed at a gate at Frankfurt Airport’s Terminal 1. The Dreamliner nosedived and sustained significant damage, Frankfurter Rundschau reports. Flight LH450 to Los Angeles, scheduled for the same day, was subsequently cancelled.

Dramatic videos and photos circulating on social media, show the plane at the gate with its nose on the ground and the tail of the aircraft is sticking up in the air. The nose landing gear doors have been pushed outwards, one of them apparently completely severed.

The engines also appear to be touching the ground at the front, according to the publication.

Initial statements from Lufthansa state there were no passengers on board at the time of the incident. However, unconfirmed reports indicate that two people were injured, reportedly crew members.

Lufthansa stated that it has established a crisis team and are yet to release a statement.

According to a spokesperson for Frankfurt Airport operator Fraport, cited by Reuters, the aircraft was parked at the gate when the incident occurred.
