Malaga restaurant ‘explosion’ as children among eight injured in horror blast
A suspected gas explosion has caused major damage and seen eight people injured, including children, at a restaurant near the popular Brit holiday destination of Malaga in Spain
A suspected explosion has occurred at restaurant in a Spanish holiday destination popular with Brits as eight people, including two children, have been injured in the blast.
Emergency services raced to the popular Restaurante Meson Morisco in Sayalonga, Malaga at 8:15pm on Monday (June 15).
According to The Olive Press, a two-year-old and a seven-year-old were treated by paramedics along with six adults. Despite the horror scenes showing the destruction the blast caused, thankfully none of the eight required hospital treatment.
Firefighters said the restaurant’s upper floor was completely destroyed. There was also damage caused to the adjacent building in the area of Plaza Don Rafael Alcoba.
The publication also said that local authorities have moved the next-door neighbour to another property due to structural concerns.
Fire crews recieved a number of frantic callls reagrding the incident and on arrival looked to see if anyone was trapped in the rubble after the upper floor had collapsed.
The Malaga Provincial Fire Consortium, who manages the Fire Prevention and Extinction and Rescue Services in the area, issued a statement about the incident on X.
The post wrote: “Our Vélez Málaga crew is responding to a gas cylinder explosion at a restaurant in Plaza Don Rafael Alcoba, Sayalonga. The upper floor collapses and we are clearing debris to ensure no one is trapped.
“We cordoned off the area. There are no seriously injured.”
