Manchester United beat Ipswich Town 5-2 for their first Premier League win of the season – but one player was ‘angry’ at himself over his performance.

Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick as United came from behind to win at Old Trafford on Sunday, with Bryan Mbeumo and a controversial Jacob Greaves own goal also helping Michael Carrick’s side.

The scoreline was not a true reflection of Ipswich’s performance, with Gary O’Neil’s team demonstrating much energy and spirit throughout the match.

The Tractor Boys took the lead in the 29th minute through Leif Davis, who was set up my Abdul Fatawu after the righ-twinger left Luke Shaw for dust.

Shaw’s performances this season have come under heavy scrutiny, especially with the Red Devils looking to sign a new left-back before transfer deadline day on Tuesday,

And the England international took full responsibility for the opener, telling Sky Sports: ‘A really important win. We knew how important it was to win today.

‘I am a bit disappointed and angry with myself for the first goal. Extremely happy with the team in the second half, it was really good.

‘With the quality in our squad we should have belief all the time we can win games. It always helps when you have someone like Bruno in your team, he can score and create.

‘Us as Manchester United should be expected to win here. After last week [the 2-0 defeat at Hull City] we were extremely disappointed and knew we had to react today.

‘Of course not the first goal but the way we bounced back after that. We kept the tempo high and kept going for more – that is the thing we can improve this season.’

The game was all but over at 4-1 when Shaw was subbed off in the 74th minute and replaced by Noussair Mazraoui, but it was another difficult game for the full-back.
