Thailand teacher ‘killed’ and at least 20 injured in school shooting as police urge students to ‘hide’

Two people have died in a school shooting in Thailand
A teacher has lost their lives in a school shooting incident in Thailand, according to emerging reports.
Officers rushed to a school located north of Bangkok on Friday following reports of an armed individual on the premises.
The tragic events unfolded at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in the Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, with authorities warning residents to steer clear of the vicinity.

“Anyone trapped inside a building, hide, close everything tightly, and wait for rescue personnel to arrive,” police announced on their Facebook page.
Reports suggest that at least 20 individuals sustained injuries alongside the two fatalities.
Authorities have confirmed the perpetrator was a pupil at the school.
Thai police and local news outlets have reported that the suspected gunman has now died.
It is reported that he killed himself, according to local media.
The suspected shooter was in ninth grade, Dechrapee Kongdee, chief of the Nonthaburi provincial police, told the BBC.
In Thailand, ninth grade students are usually 14-years-old.
Lt. Col. Dechrapee Kongdee, the Nonthaburi provincial police commander, confirmed the casualties and said the suspected gunman had taken their own life.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed his condolences for the victims. He said: “This is really bad, it shouldn’t have happened. I don’t just feel sorry for the victims but I feel sorry that this happened. How can this happen in our country.”
The student has been confirmed to be in ninth grade
Officials continue to urge the public to avoid the area while emergency services remain on scene.
Pictures show students fleeing the scene, running from the school as the police warned anybody who remained inside to hide.
One student explained that he thought the gunshots were fireworks. He said: “I didn’t think it was a gun at first,”
“There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.”
The Debsirin School is a popular secondary school that has locations across the country.
The first Debsirin School in Bangkok was founded by Thai King Chulalongkorn in 1885.
It has been attended by many public figures, including Thai prime ministers, diplomats and athletes.
In the 2025 academic year, about 3,100 students were enrolled at the school with 147 teachers, according to district authorities.
